Four Simple Ways to Build Positive Relationships with Co-workers

    January 28, 2016 / by Britany Smith

In order to have a successful business, you should maintain a friendly working environment. When you have good relationships with your peers at work, it makes others enthusiastic to be in the presence of you and your co-workers.

Effective ways to build good co-working relationships:

    • Practice common sense: Saying “Hello”, asking how someone is doing, and thanking them are just a few common courtesy examples to follow. You never know how a person is feeling on a daily and one small gesture could change a person’s mood.

    • Use effective communications: Learn who works best through talking on the phone, email, instant messaging, or personal visits. Try to utilize these preferences when interacting with co-workers.

    • Respect other people’s time and space: Learn how to have a balance when communicating with your co-workers. Be courteous of your co-workers space and time so they can focus on getting work done.

    • Treat everyone with the same respect: Co-workers may serve different purposes within a company. It is very important to treat everyone with the same respect without showing favoritism, talking down on someone, intimidating someone because you have higher authority, or disrespecting others.

These strategies may be common sense, but they can complement any agenda-oriented workplace. It is always important to show your co-workers respect as you would any client or customer. Showing respect to others makes the environment you work in a much happier place. Implementing respect also brings in more business for you when customers or clients are aware of your environment.
